April 6, 2013, Edmonton, AB (ISN) – Stephane Legault’s team leading fifth goal of the post season was the game winner as the Oil Kings took a 4-1 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers to draw first blood in their Eastern Conference Semi-final.
Edgars Kulda along with Oilers draft picks Travis Ewanyk and Mitch Moroz combined for three of the Oil Kings four goals on the night. Former Oil Kings goaltender Cam Lanigan put in a solid effort to keep the game close despite the Oil Kings outshooting the Tigers 33-22 on the night.
Legault currently ranks fifth in WHL Playoff scoring with 11 points in 6 games.
Edmonton killed off a pair of minor penalties in the final five minutes of the game. The Oil Kings league leading penalty kill has yet to allow a power play goal in these WHL playoffs.
Kyle Becker broke Laurent Brossoit’s shutout bid for the Tigers. Brossoit posted a 21 save performance to raise his playoff record to 5-0-1 with a WHL leading 0.80 GAA and 0.966 save percentage. The Oil Kings netminder has only allowed a single goal against in the last three contests between these two clubs.
The Oil Kings will now prepare for Game 2 of their 2013 WHL Eastern Conference Semi-Final series on Sunday, April 7th. Game time is 4:00 p.m. and it’s another playoff Family Fun SUNday presented by the Edmonton SUN which includes $6 kids food combos, inflatables for the kids, $2 popcorn, face painters, balloon artists and more.
