April 13, 2013, Saanich, BC (ISN) – On Sunday, April 14, 2013, Saanich Police will sponsor the Vancouver Island High School Rugby 7’s Championships at UVIC Centennial Stadium.
The games begin at 0900 hours and the Championship game will be played at 1725 hours followed by the presentation of the RADU Shield to the first place team.
The event is being sponsored by Saanich Police with additional funding provided by the Saanich Police Association and the Saanich Police Athletic Association. The first place team will be awarded the RADU shield which is named after a Saanich Police Officer, Cst. Roy Radu. The top 4 teams also earn a berth in the Prvovincial 7’s tournament April 27-28 at UBC’s Thunderbird Stadium.
Cst. RADU was a previous National Team Rugby player and a teacher prior to becoming a Police Officer.
Rugby 7’s is an exciting game played on the full field used by the 15 aside Rugby. The pace of the game is fast, the skill level and stamina of the players is extremely high and it is truly a spectator game. The games are fifteen minutes in length comprising of two seven minute halves and a one minute break for half time. We have twelve teams entered from Port Alberni, Cowichan and of course the Greater Victoria area.
The Saanich Police School Liaison Section will have our members attending in uniform and we would love to see members of the public attend to catch the exciting action. There is no entry fee for the event and games are scheculed to begin every twenty minutes.

The teams will then be seeded into 4 pools and play each other with the finals scheduled for 5:25 pm Sunday.
