April 15, 2013, Toronto, ON (ISN) – Jake MacNeil of Georgetown, Ont., and Andrew Richards of London, Ont., along with Nicole McNamara and Megan McNamara of Delta, B.C., earned spots for the Youth Olympic Games qualifying tournament later this summer with victories this weekend at a trials event
MacNeil and Richards defeated Alexandre Ferris and Nathan Charron of Orleans, Ont., 21-13, 21-15 in the championship final. In the bronze medal match, Adam Spragg of Gilford, Ont., and Christopher Towe of Caledon, Ont., beat Derek Meeuwisse and Chris Brunet of Calgary 21-12, 21-12.
In the women’s tournament, the McNamara’s edged Tiadora Miric of Thornhill, Ont., and Alexandra Poletto of Toronto 14-21, 24-22, 15-8. Both teams reached the final without losing a set.
In the third place match, Stephanie Burnside of Calgary and Katelyn Friesen of Niverville, Man., defeated Heather Sigurdson and Zoe Mackintosh of Toronto 21-14, 21-8.
Both winning teams will represent Canada at the NORCECA (North and Central America and Caribbean) Central Zone Youth Olympic Games qualification event in Puerto Rico this summer.
