Oil Kings to Welcome Olympic Champion Shannon Szabados

April 18, 2013, Edmonton, AB (ISN) – The Oil Kings start their Husky WHL Eastern Conference Championship series against the Calgary Hitmen on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Rexall Place.

Joining the Oil Kings will be a very special guest – Olympic Gold Medalist Shannon Szabados. Fans will be able to meet the decorated athlete during a first intermission autograph session at the game.

The Edmonton native has represented Canada on numerous occasions and helped lead the Canadian women to a gold medal at the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver. Szabados was selected as an Olympic tournament all-star and was also named the top goaltender. This past season, she helped lead the NAIT Ooks to their first ACAC championship in 16 years as they knocked off their Battle of Alberta rivals – the SAIT Trojans. Most recently she backstopped Team Canada at the 2013 Women’s World Hockey Championships.

Advance ticket prices for the 2013 Eastern Conference Championship will start at just $20. Fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance to save compared to ‘day of game’ pricing. Game 2 is set for 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 19th at Rexall Place. Everyone in attendance has a chance to win one of 500 special ‘Battle of Alberta ‘ t-shirts with scratch and win tickets handed out at the door!

The entire 2013 Husky WHL Eastern Conference Championship series between the Edmonton Oil Kings and Calgary Hitmen will be televised LIVE on SHAW on Channel 304 and SHAW Direct Channel 299 throughout Western Canada.
