April 23, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – The Peninsula Co-op Highlanders women’s team kick off the 2013 training camp tonight, with the annual player assessment and orientation at Glen Lyon Norfolk School field turf.
For the next three weeks, Highlanders head coach Dave Dew and assistant coach/manager Bud Livingstone will run training sessions to get the Pacific Coast Soccer League ready for the season.
“We are looking forward to putting together a competitive team derived from a mixture of young developmental and veteran players,” commented Highlanders Head Coach Dave Dew. “With our return to the PCSL our objective is to return to the playoffs, as we did in our first season in 2010, and I think that’s a real possibility.
The Highlanders most recently played in the USL W-League, and will play the 2013 season in the Pacific Coast Soccer Leagues women’s premier division. In the PCSL, the Peninsula Co-Op Highlanders will have a familiar face as the Vancouver Whitecaps will also be competing for the title in 2013.
“We are all excited for the preseason to start,” stated Highlanders General Manager Mark deFrias. “Dave [Dew] has a strong squad of players and we are also excited for a few of the players we are still awaiting their arrival in the next few weeks. All in all, I think the team is well equipped to make a strong run for the playoffs.”
The Peninsula Co-op Highlanders open the 2013 regular season at Tyndall Park versus the Kamloops Heat on May 12. All home games will be played at Tyndall Park, except for two doubleheaders with the men’s PDL team on June 8th and July 13th.
Season tickets for the men’s PDL are now on sale, and also include the two women’s doubleheaders. 10 games in total, starting at $35. Call 250.590.8432 visit www.victoriahighlandersfc.com for more information.
