April 23, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – It was a good weekend for the club, with senior squads going 3 for 3. Saturday, the women finished off the regular season with a strong effort over UVic (42-12).

That leaves them in 1st place going into the playoffs, with a home game this coming weekend against 4th place SFU (11:30am Saturday at Velox). The ladies beat SFU 67-0 in the regular season, so it will be interesting to see if they can match that work rate.

The Academy squad squeaked out a 37-32 victory up in Port Alberni in an Island consolation round playoff game. That earned them a berth in the consolation final for 3rd place, but the squad has decided that it won’t be able to make that game. They aren’t done, however, as they are elligible for the BC Okanagon Spring Brewery League 2 playoffs. The Valhallians had a bye, having placed 1st in the Cowichan Cup regular season. This weekend they host Nanaimo at 1pm Saturday to decide the Cowichan Cup (that’s the competition for 1st div only clubs, as apposed to the Times Cup which includes 1st div squads from Premier clubs: Velox has already won that competition). Should they win the Cowichan Cup this weekend, they will enter the BC Okanagan Spring Brewery League 1 semifinals and have a crack at promotion to Premier for next season.

On Sunday, the 3rds (first place in the Spring competition) won their Island semifinal 37-5 over CW. That sets up an Island final this coming Sunday against Comox (first place in the fall competition). By previous arrangment, this match is to be played on neutral ground, so will be a 1pm kickoff Sunday at Cowichan. Both squads have already earned berths in the BC 3rd div finals.
