Hawks Pick Up Game 4 Shutout in 3-0 Win; Lead Conference Final 3-1

April 24, 2013, Portland, OR (ISN) – The Portland Winterhawks defeated the Kamloops Blazers 3-0 Wednesday to take a 3-1 series lead in the Western Conference Final.

The Hawks will have a chance to clinch the series at home Friday in Game 5 at the Rose Garden beginning at 7 p.m.

Mac Carruth earned his fourth shutout of the playoffs and seventh of his postseason career, turning away all 29 shots he faced.

Portland struck first just 2:09 into the game when Nic Petan scored on a 5-on-3 power play to get the Hawks out to a 1-0 lead. Later in the frame, Seth Jones fired a shot from the point that beat Kamloops netminder Cole Cheveldave at the 11:43 mark to make it 2-0 after 20 minutes.

After a scoreless second period, Petan scored his second of the night 1:35 into the third to extend the Hawks’ lead to 3-0, which stood as the final.

Ty Rattie had three assists to give him 88 career playoff points, passing Rob Brown (Kamloops, 1983-87) for third in WHL history. Next on the list is Greg Hawgood (Kamloops, 1983-88), with 100 postseason points.

Petan added an assist to go with his two goals to also finish with three points.

Portland was 1-7 on the power play and a perfect 4-4 on the penalty kill.
