April 24, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – The Blazers have looked forward to their first meeting with the Firefighters all year, after falling short against them in the 2012 VSLL Championship game.

While it wasn’t their most disciplined match (10 minor penalties called against the Blazers), they made few mistakes and capitalized on their opportunities in a decisive 8-2 win.

Leading the scoring was Bryan Reeve with 2 goals & 3 assists. Eric Brabander “chipped” in with 2 goals of his own, in his first game back to the lineup after chipping his front teeth in the season opener. Unfortunately the Blazers finished the game without top speedsters & offensive producers Cody Boon (left midway through the game) & Tory Spiteri (did not dress), both of whom reportedly suffered lower body injuries.

“Great game for the defense,” said longtime Blazers season ticket holder/former Growing Pains star Alan Thicke*. “2 goals against? And I don’t know how many penalties they killed. You gotta give them a pat on the back. Especially (goaltender) Rob Wood. What a war that game was too. You can tell those teams don’t really like each other.”

Late last week the Blazers defeated the Tugmen 8-7. Leading the charge for the Blazers were Cody Boon (3 goals, 1 assist) and Julian Spence (1 goal, 3 assists).

The Blazers are back in action tomorrow night as they take on the Jokers at 9:00pm (Archie Browning arena in Esquimalt – free admission).
