April 27, 2013, Fuzhou, China (ISN) – Jamie Broder of Victoria and Kristina Valjas of Toronto ended a strong run at the China Open beach volleyball tournament Saturday with an FIVB World Tour career-best ninth place finish.

The 26th-seeded Canadians lost in the round of 16 to third-seed seeds Greta Cicolari and Marta Menegatti of Italy 21-17, 21-15. Broder and Valjas opened the tournament with a victory in qualifying to advance to the main draw. They went 1-2 in the round robin portion of the tournament to reach the playoff round.

“We are so pumped about our top-10 finish in the first FIVB event of the season,” tweeted Valjas.

It is the second impressive result this year for Broder and Valjas who won the season opening event on the NORCECA circuit earlier this month.
