April 27, 2013, Ottawa, ON (ISN) – Tickets will go on sale Monday for the NORCECA (North and Central American and Caribbean) Continental Championships men’s volleyball tournament to be held September 23-28, 2013 in Langley,B.C. at the Langley Events Centre.
Tickets are available as of Monday April 29 at 10 a.m., and can be obtained at Ticketmaster.ca.
This year’s event will not only determine the newest continental champion and offer valuable world ranking points, but will also qualify the winning team to the 2013 Grand Champions Cup to be held later this fall in Japan.
The Grand Champions Cup offers $1million in prize money to the teams and athlete award winners.
“The Men’s National Volleyball Team is extremely excited to be able to come to BC to play in front of our home-town fans for the Continental Championship,” stated National Team Captain Fred Winters. “The tournament is one of the most important and prestigious on our competitve calendar and we will look forward to having the home court advantage.”
As a former BC resident, Winters knows to expect great crowds from throughout B.C. and Canada to take in the event and adds that they’ll be witnessing the highest level of volleyball in the world. Additionally, Fred will be personally attending the BC Provincial Championships the weekends of April 27-29 and May 4-6 to help promote the event.
Along with Canada, countries entered for the event are world powerhouses Cuba and USA along with Puerto Rico, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Bahamas (Caribbean Zone Champions), St. Lucia (Eastern Caribbean Zone Champions) and Guatemala (Central American Zone Champions).
This is the second straight year Langley hosts a major international volleyball championship. In September 2012 the U-23 Men’s Volleyball Pan Am Cup took place at the LEC.
