May 1, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – After having their second round postponed to day two, the University of Victoria Vikes men boosted their scores to finish in fourth place overall at the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) conference championship, hosted Apr. 29-30 at the Victoria Country Club in Victoria, Texas.
As a team, the Vikes men posted a score of 908 (305-303-300, +44) to finish in fourth spot. California State-San Marcos impressed with 874 (294-289-291, +10) to finish seven strokes ahead of the UBC Thunderbirds (881, +17) and third placed Ashford University (892, +28).
Alberta native and rookie Jesse Teron lead the Vikes on both days, shooting 75 in all three rounds of play to card a final score of 225 (+9). Teron finished tied for 11th with Ashford University’s Trent Specht.
Brothers Alex and Jamie Cartwright finished two strokes apart from each other, with Alex finished tied for 14th with a score of 227 (79-71-77, +11). Jamie Cartwright finished tied for 16th with a three-round score of 229 (75-78-76, +13).
Rounding out the scores for the Vikes were rookies Sean Hay (232, +16) and Matthew Broughton (236, +20), who finished tied for 21st and 25th, respectively.
Houston-Victoria’s Vance Edwards took the individual honours after an impressive two-day score of 213 (72-70-71, -3), four strokes ahead of UBC’s Conner Kozak (215, -1). Edwards and the Cal Stat-San Marcos secured spots at the NAIA national championship, May 14-17 in Salem, Ore.
