May 7, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – The British Columbia Rugby Unions Semi Final Saturday was too be big one for the Velox RFC. With the Premier Women’s team already on to the Finals the Men’s squads took to Velox field in three divisions looking for their berth to the finals and while the Sun Gods shined down on Velox Field the Rugby Gods did not.
The day opened with the 3rds hosting the Brit Lions and despite a spirited effort by the Valhallians they were over matched by a margin of 42-17.

Game 2 saw the Velox Academy put together one of their best games of the season but too much time spent in the Velox end of the field resulted in a 46-29 victory for the visiting Abbotsford RFC.

The 1st division squad, coming off a spectacular season that saw them go 16-2 with 771 points scored for and 223 points scored against and Times Cup and Cowichan Cup titles, also took on Abbotsford RFC.
A common theme on the day emerged early, as most of the play took place in the Velox half but some strong defense kept the game close.

With Abbotsford up 19-8 mid way through the 2nd half the Valhallians mounted a comeback, but time wasn’t on their favor and they came up on the short end of a 19-15 decision.

Despite the losses in the semi finals the Velox fans were treated to some great rugby and the players can all hold their heads high.
After a less then stellar 2012 season for the 1st Division, they came out and showed that they are still a squad to be reckoned with and with the addition of the Academy development team to help improve the home grown talent, the future of Velox looks bright.
Meanwhile the Valkyries are hard at work preparing to take on the archrival Burnaby Lake RFC in the BCRU Women’s Provincial Championship on May 11 at 12:00. This will be the third straight year these teams have met in the finals with Burnaby Lake taking the 2011 title and Velox the 2012 title.
