May 7, 2013, Victoria, B.C. (ISN) – A little over a month ago, the daring voyage of the James Robert Hanssen and 4-man crew rowing 4,000 miles across the Atlantic from Senegal to Miami was cut short.
The oar-powered research boat capsized. Local rower and Olympic gold medal champion Adam Kreek narrowly escaped with his life.
Saturday May 18 everyone is invited to a public celebration 2 pm to 5 pm to meet Adam, see an inspiring and educational presentation about the expedition at 2:30 pm and hear his story in person at the spacious shop and showroom at Whitehall Rowing and Sail, 85 Dallas Road, near Ogden Point. There is ample parking on the point.
The Flags will be flying and complimentary snacks and beverages on hand with help from Dockside Green, Spinnakers, Driftwood Brewery, Strathcona Hotel and Molsen Canadian.
“It will be interesting to hear what he has to say now that the shock is over and the boat has been salvaged along with all the research equipment.”said Whitehall owner Harold Aune.
Kreek has a long association with Whitehall, makers of an innovative slide-seat all-water rowing boat. He is a founding member of the Whitehall Spirit® Rowing Club of Victoria and collaborated with Aune on their “How To Row” instructional movie & DVD.
When: Saturday, May 18 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm
