May 9, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – Bob Stankov has been the goal keeper coach for the Victoria Highlanders FC organization since he joined in 2008.
His focus is directed towards the Highlanders men’s team, as well as being an active member of the Victoria youth development community.
Stankov’s impressive resume includes working alongside Shel Brodsgaard, former Canadian National Team Goalkeeper coach, and staff member at the Island Keeper Clinic. Prior to the Highlanders, Stankov served with the University of Victoria Women’s soccer team. As well as his current position with the Highlanders, Stankov is the Head Goalkeeping Coach for Reynolds Secondary School Center for Soccer Excellence and the Lower Island Soccer Association (LISA).
His playing career saw him play at the professional level for one season when he played for the Edmonton Aviators in the USL for the 2004 season. He now plays in the Vancouver Island Soccer League (VISL) Division 1 team, Sooke Celtic.
“I’ve worked with Bob for about five years now,” said Rab Bruce-Lockhart, goal keeper for the Highlanders Men’s first team, “He’s really dedicated to coaching at all levels. His success as a coach is shown through the quality of Victoria based keepers. Personally I love working with him, he’s a great coach and a great friend. He’s really prepared me for the university game and I’m excited to get to work with him as part of the Highlanders again.”
This season, Stankov has begun working more frequently with the Peninsula Co-op Highlanders but can still be seen and heard on Sundays at Braefoot helping out with youth development; offering helpful tips and words of encouragement
