Goodlife Fitness Victoria Marathon First Registrati​on Deadline – May 15

May 10, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) –  The first registration deadline for the GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon is just days away – on May 15.

The 34th annual running of the Marathon takes place on Sunday, October 13. In addition to the Marathon there is a Half Marathon, 8K Road Race and the Thrifty Foods Kids Run.

All four races are capped: the Marathon at 3,000; Half Marathon at 6,000; 8K Road Race at 3,500 and the Thrifty Foods Kids Run 1,300.

The event has four official charities: KidSport Greater Victoria, Raise A Reader, GoodLife Kids Foundation and the Kilee Patchell-Evans Autism Research Group. In addition there are 19 charities participating in the 2013 Times Colonist Charity Pledge Program.

“Part of reaching a goal is committing to it. In looking ahead to Race Day on October 13 we encourage new runners and walkers to commit to the 8K, Half Marathon or Marathon and register by the first deadline, May 15th,” says Cathy Noel, General Manager of the GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon. “Take the first step towards the GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon finish line.”

The registration fee for the Marathon until May 15 is $90. The deadline also applies to the Half Marathon and the 8K Road Race where the fees are $65 and $30. After May 15 the registration fees will be $100 for the Marathon, $75 for the Half Marathon and $35 for the 8K Road Race. The entry fee for the Thrifty Foods Kids Run will remain at $15 until October 12.

For the fifth year in a row the GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon will host the BC Marathon Championships. There is $37,300 available in prize money with $3,000 each going to the top male and female and a $5,000 bonus for a new men’s or women’s course record. The Men’s and Women’s Marathon course record was set in 2011 by Thomas Omwenga (2:14:31) and Lucy Njeri (2:37:56). Natasha Fraser set a new Women’s Half Marathon record in 2012 (1:14:06). The Men’s Half Marathon record is held by Jon Brown (2002 – 1:02:32). Gary Barber holds the Men’s 8K course record (1989 – 23:23) and Ulla Marquette holds the Women’s record (1991 – 26:24).
