May 11, 2013, Fort Lauderdale (ISN) – Maxim Bouchard of St-Constant, Que., placed sixth on men’s 10-metre tower in an event that included four Olympians at the fourth stop on FINA Grand Prix diving circuit on Saturday.
Yanquan Zhang of China won the gold medal with 521.00 points edging Olympic champion David Boudia of the U.S., second at 518.60. Oleksandr Bondar of Ukraine was third at 507.50.
Bouchard struggled in the middle portion of his program earning low marks for his reverse and inward dives for 397.00. On everything else it was 8.0’s and 8.5’s.
It was the second Grand Prix in a row Bouchard reached the final. Last week he was a career-best fourth at the Canada Cup in Gatineau, Que. Prior to last week he had never advanced to the last six at the international level.
”This was a stronger field than last week and I never expected to make the final,”said Bouchard, 22. ”I think I was a little intimidated today against these divers. Still it’s great to have this confidence going into the world championship trials.”
The trials for the FINA World Championships in July are May 23-26 at the Summer Nationals in Quebec City.
Competition ends Sunday
