May 14, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – Andrea Carey, Director of Operations & Community Engagement at the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence (PISE) has been re-elected to the Canadian Paralympic Committee Board of Directors for a second term. She will serve a four-year term from 2013 – 2017.

Carey brings a wealth of experience to the role. She has been Director of Operations at PISE since its opening in September 2008 and she is very active in the sports community – as Chair of SportHost Victoria, Co-Chair for Promotion Plus Victoria, and Co-Founder of the Victoria Goddess Run. She was named on the Women on Influence Top 25 List in 2012, is the recipient of a Diamond Jubilee Medal and was a CAAWS One to Watch in 2011.

“I am honored to continue to serve on the Board and to work to build our grassroots initiatives and pursue our vision of being a world leading Paralympic nation,” said Carey. “The Paralympic story is one that I believe Canadians fall in love with once they see our athletes in action. I certainly did and I want to ensure we give others the chance to get to know what the Paralympic movement is all about.”

Carey has been a Board member since 2010 serving as Chair of the External Representation Committee and on the Finance & Audit Committee. The Canadian Paralympic Committee is a non-profit, private organization with 46 member sports organizations dedicated to strengthening the Paralympic Movement. Its mission is to lead the development of a sustainable Paralympic sport system in Canada to enable athletes to reach the podium at the Paralympic Games
