Canadian women’s national team camp heads to Regina for match

May 15, 2013, Winnepeg, (ISN) – The 21 players at Canada’s national women’s team camp will play an all important intra-squad (Red and White) match on Friday May 17 during the 15U Nationals in Regina.

Match time is 7:15 p.m. at Evraz Place.

It is the first event for the women’s national team program in the post-Olympic season as head coach Arndt Ludwig pares down his roster for the 2013 summer season. Friday’s match will be an important of the selection process.

”We are in the final process of selecting the athletes for the next four to eight years,” said Ludwig, who’ll announce the final roster at the end of the month. ”This match in Regina is a great opportunity for me to observe how players perform under pressure. This will help the coaching staff to make the final decisions for the selection.”

Ludwig is also excited about exposing the national program to hundreds of young players from across Canada and hopefully spark some dreams to one day play for Team Canada.

”I am very happy that we are coming to Regina to play a Red White match in front of so many young athletes,” he said. ”It is good for us that people from all over the country see what we do and that young players get a connection the national team program.”

The Team Canada players arrive from their base in Winnipeg to Regina on Thursday and train that evening as well as Friday morning. On Saturday, they will have a weight training session and sign autographs from noon to 3 p.m. at Evraz Place.
