The highlight of the trip will come on May 30th at Estadio Quisqueya in Santo Domingo when the juniors take-on some of the Dominican Republic’s top prospects that are eligible to sign with Major League Baseball clubs on or after July 2nd. The Dominican team will be selected by MLB as they showcase some of the top unsigned talent the country has to offer ahead of the July 2nd signing day.

The JNT roster features 25 players who took part in the Spring Camp last month in Orlando, while three players – Toby Handley (Whitby, ON), Luke Manuel (Surrey, BC) and Mitchell Robinson (Surrey, BC) – have all been added to the roster.

Five players named to the roster – Gareth Morgan (Toronto, ON), Josh Naylor (Mississauga, ON), Cal Quantrill (Port Hope, ON), Travis Seabrooke (Peterborough, ON) and Owen Spiwak (Mississauga, ON) – helped Canada win a silver medal at the 2012 IBAF 18U World Championship in Seoul, South Korea.

The coaching is staff is led by Head Coach and Baseball Canada’s Director of National Teams Greg Hamilton (Ottawa, ON), while Pitching Coach Chris Reitsma (Calgary, AB) and Coaches Hyung Cho (Scarborough, ON) and Corey Eckstein (Abbotsford, BC) return to the staff. Former National Team player Adam Stern along with former Anaheim Angel, Olympian and current Baseball Canada Vice-President Jason Dickson will be part of the staff as guest coaches.

The Dominican Summer League Camp is an important step in the process as the JNT prepares for the IBAF 18U World Championship August 30th-September 8th in Taichung, Taiwan.

“This camp will allow our coaching staff the opportunity to evaluate all players in a highly competitive environment,” said Hamilton “The strides taken at this camp will better prepare our team for success going forward and leading to the World Championship in September.”

With MLB’s First Year Player Draft scheduled for June 6th-8th, the trip to Dominican will provide Canadian players an opportunity to perform in front of MLB scouts and personnel.
