The Keg Steakhouse & Bar Late Model Drivers Challenge Hits Western Speedway

May 17, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – This Saturday Night at Western Speedway, The Keg Steakhouse & Bar Late Model Driver Challenge kicks off year two with its first of four events, along with Island Series Stock Cars, OTRA Old Timers and the IMS4 Mini Stocks at the fast 4/10ths paved oval in Langford.

The Keg Late Models Series under the leadership of Steve Copp, Bill Smith Jr. and Daryl Crocker have been very busy in the off season, as they resurrect the Late Model program in Victoria. Their hard work for the past two years will show this year as they are expecting a minimum of 16 Models from the Mainland and Island for this Saturday’s event, 21 cars have currently committed to the series by purchasing tire. The Series will once again run Twin 50 lap features along with the Chris Parker Memorial heat races.

Drivers confirmed to be in competition Saturday are a who’s, who of Late Model Drivers in BC, include 2012 Champion Wade Bland in a brand new Port City/Harding Motorsports Supply Ford Fusion. Ladner’s Dave Hemrich the 2012 Canada 200 winner and the 2012 ASA BC Late Model Champion, Victoria’s Geoff Morris the 2011 ASA BC Late Model Champion, Vancouver’s Jason Terasenko the 2011 Western Speedway Late Model Champion. Other Mainland drivers include Murray Dyck from Chilliwack, Bob Kuhn from Vancouver, and Harvey Hoogenboom from Langley. Victoria drivers include Brandon Carlson, Rory Smith, Darrell Midgley, Aaron Wilke, Brent Morris, Tyler Clough, Steve Copp and Rookie driver Shawn Standiforth. Combine that with up island drivers Bart Smith, TJ Cassidy, Brad Purdy, Ray Anderosov, Nik Wisselmann, and Otto Bohati you will see one of the best Late Model fields at Western Speedway in years.

The Island Series Stock Cars will see action for the second time this early season as Cobble Hill driver Chris McInerney will be looking to make it two twins in a row after a thrilling battle with current points leader Daryl Crocker at the opener on May 4th . Drivers hoping to rebound after opening night problems include former Stock Car Champion Brian Clutchey who had a bad spark plug wirer and last year’s Rookie Of the Year winner Brandon Steen who never got untracked at the first event. Other drivers expected to challenge include Kevin Knight who finished third at the \opener and Dave Reside, new drivers out Saturday include Mark Lockhart who makes a return to the Stock Car class after several years and Wayne Hart.

The OTRA Old Timers will also see action as threes replica cars from the 20’s and 30’s put on a thrilling show, drivers expected to challenge for the win include, Joe and Steven Dardengo, James Miller, George Jenson, Tom Cinnamon, Larry Joyce and Denis Morneau.

In the IMS4 Mini Stock division Alex Mouner the 2010 and 2011 Champion has a 4 point lead over Matt Szauer 65 to 61 after winning the first race of the year on May 4. Justin Woodske is in the third position with 56 points, one more that 2012 Champion Jeremy Waksel at 55, tied for fifth is Billy Stidson and Caleb Van Bree with 51 points.

The next event at Western Speedway will be Saturday May 25th for Heritage Board Supply Monster Truck Mania featuring The California Kid & Rock Star along with the LORDCO Auto Parts Demo Car and Truck action, Bombers,Mini Figure 8’s and a Total Destruction..

The front gates open at 4:30 pm, qualifying at 5:30 and racing at 6:30 pm.
