May 19, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – Led by two goals from striker Brett Levis, the Highlanders put on an impressive offensive display to down the Saunders 4-1 this afternoon in front of 1,300 fans at Royal Athletic Park. The win keeps the Highlanders undefeated in Pacific Development League play at a perfect 3-0.

The Highlanders carried the play for long stretches in the first half, and Brett Levis opened the scoring for Victoria in the 22nd minute.

Levis capped off a stellar first half with a fine goal from the wing in the 31st minute, his second. From then on, the highlanders sat back on defence, relying on offensive chances from Sounders turnovers and a fast transition game. Kalem Scott in particular stood out on defence for the Highlanders throughout the match.

The Highlanders extended their lead in the second half, with a goal by midfielder Tommy Mallette in the 52nd minute. Mallette, who again provided a creative spark in the Highlanders midfield, was the recipient of several aggressive sounders tackles in the second half, no doubt in an attempt to contain his playmaking prowess. This backfired in the 60th minute when midfielder Riley O’Neill scored on a header off a fine free kick by Tyler Hughes, awarded after a foul on Mallette. The Saunders continued to play hard throughout the second half, and managed a consolation goal in the 63rd minute from Myles Byass. The Highlanders hope to continue their winning ways at home against the Northsound Sea Wolves on Saturday.
