May 22, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – The South Island Royals are proud to announce their coaching staff for the 2013-14 BC Major Midget League (BCMML) Season.

Returning to South Island will be second year head coach Geoff Grimwood. During the 2012-13 BCMML season, Grimwood led the team to a seventh place finish with a record of 11-22-7 and a berth in the league playoffs. As well, Grimwood is a part-time assistant coach with the Victoria Royals of the Western Hockey League (WHL).

Previously, Grimwood spent two seasons in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) as an assistant coach with the Powell River Kings. Before Powell River, Grimwood coached in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League with separate stints with the Peninsula Panthers and Victoria Cougars.

Grimwood’s hockey career saw him play with the former Victoria Salsa of the BCHL and the Red Deer College Kings Men’s Varsity Hockey Team of the Alberta College Athletic Conference (ACAC).

Joining Grimwood behind the South Island bench as an associate coach will be Rob Milliken. This will be Milliken’s second time with the South Island hockey program, after he coached the Thunderbirds, now the Royals, for five seasons from 2005 until 2010.

Recently Milliken was an assistant coach with the gold medal winning Team BC at the 2013 Western Canada Under-16 Challenge Cup. In 2012, the Victoria, BC resident coached with the Hockey Canada World Under-17 Team Pacific Regional Summer Camp. For the 2011-12 hockey season, Milliken coached the Victoria Racquet Club Bantam AAA team. Milliken started his coaching career in the 2003-04 season as the head coach of the BCHL’s Victoria Salsa.

Milliken played hockey professionally for six years, which included time with the Bakersfield Fog of the West Coast Hockey League (WCHL) and Rockford Icehogs of the United Hockey League (UHL). Milliken skated for five years in the BCHL, with his time split between the Powell River Paper Kings, Victoria Warriors and Kelowna Spartans.
