Success Continues for Canada on the World Tour Beach Volleyball Circuit

May 23, 2013, Corrientes, Argentina (ISN) – Sarah Pavan of Kitchener, Ont., and Heather Bansley of Toronto opened main draw play with a win and a loss on Thursday to put themselves in strong contention for a berth in the playoffs at the third stop on the World Tour beach volleyball circuit.

Pavan, one of the world’s top indoor players who is trying her hand on the beach this summer, and Bansley lost their opening match to third-seeds Katrin Holtwick and Ilka Semmler of Germany 21-13, 20-22, 15-10.

The 30th seed Canadians in their first tournament together, rebounded a few hours later to beat 14th seeds Greta Cicorali and Viktoria Orsi Toth of Italy 21-16, 21-12.

In the pool C standings, the Germans lead at 2-0, the Canadians and Natalia Dubovcova and Dominika Nestarcova of Slovakia are 1-1 and the Italians 0-2.

Pavan and Bansley complete the round robin portion of the tournament on Friday against the Slovakian pair.
