Athletics Canada nominates 56 athletes to Summer Universiade (FISU) Team

May 24, 2013, Ottawa, ON (ISN) – Athletics Canada today nominated 56 athletes to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) 2013 Summer Universiade (FISU) team that will compete in Kazan, Russia. The event takes place from July 6 to 17, athletics competition will take place July 7 to 12.

Athletics Canada’s FISU nominees are highlighted by five 2012 Olympians:

•Melissa Bishop of Eganville, Ont.

•Inaki Gomez of Vancouver, B.C.

•Julie Labonté of Sainte-Justine, Que.

•Segun Makinde of Ottawa, Ont.

•Sarah Wells of Toronto, Ont.

The team includes nine veterans from the 2011 Summer Universiade: Evan Dunfee of Richmond, B.C., (placed 14th); Sam Effah of Calgary, Alta., (DNS); Inaki Gomez (5th); Christie Gordon of Edmonton, Alta., (3rd in semi final); Chantelle Groenewoud of North Vancouver, B.C., (8th in heat); Kimberly Hyacinthe of Terrebonne, Que., (5th in semi final); Annie Leblanc of Repentigny, Que., (8th in semi final); Segun Makinde (5th); Timothy Nedow of Brockville, Ont., (12th); and Kyle Nielsen of Coquitlam, B.C., (10th).
