May 24, 2013, Corrientes, Argentina (ISN) – Sarah Pavan of Kitchener, Ont., and Heather Bansley of Toronto completed a successful first appearance together on the FIVB World Tour beach volleyball circuit on Friday by placing ninth.
Pavan, one of the top indoor players in the world, and Bansley, who formed one of Canada’s best beach pairs with Liz Maloney for past three seasons, passed through qualifying, round robin and earned a playoff victory to finish with a 4-2 record overall.
Three of those matches were played on Friday. Pavan and Bansley completed their round robin schedule in in the morning defeating Natalia Dubovcova and Dominika Nestarcova of Slovakia 12-21, 21-17, 15-12. The Canadians finished second in their pool at 2-1 to advance to the first round elimination,
In that first elimination match, they beat Gioria Daniela and Laura Giombini of Italy 21-12, 21-19 in early afternoon action. Less than three hours later in the round of 16 Pavan and Bansley were back on court and were finally thwarted by 13th seeds Karla Borger and Britta Buthe of Germany 21-15, 21-15.
