June 3, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – The 2nd Annual Victoria Goddess Run was given a big thumbs up yesterday, Sunday June 2, by over 3,200 women. In the Red Barn Market Half-Marathon there were 670 registrants, in the Westhills 10KM, 1,561 and in the BMO 5KM, 971.
This doubled the number of registrations from 2012. The event took place under sunny skies in Langford, BC.
A mix of sun and cloud made for perfect conditions for the participants, many of whom dressed in colourful costumes for this women’s only run. The Red Barn Half-Marathon had 559 finishers, the Westhills 10KM had 1,372 and the BMO 5KM had 846 for a total of 2,777 finishers.
“We are amazed by all the wonderful women who chose to spend their Sunday with us in beautiful Langford,” said Andrea Carey, Co-Race Director “We are thrilled to contribute over $26,000 to three valuable female focused organizations. Thank you to Langford for hosting us and to all of our incredible sponsors.”
The three official charities are the Women’s Sexual Assault Centre, supporting women who have suffered a sexual assault; Women’s Transition House who work to help women who have suffered abuse to get the help they need to get back on their feet, and ProMotion Plus who support women and girls participation in sport and physical activity.
“We are so excited with all the elements of Goddess Run and proud to be the Presenting Sponsor,” said Jason Manning, Program Director for 98.5 Ocean. “What a sensational event for women in Victoria.”
“It is such a fantastic community event that has a broad appeal from kids and youths to seniors,” said Rohan Rupf, Marketing Director of Key Corp Marketing, speaking on behalf of Westhills. “An event like this is so needed in the community, and we would like to thank the City of Langford and City Centre Park for making this happen.”
