June 3, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – The University of Victoria Vikes men’s and women’s track teams will be in Coquitlam, B.C. competing in the All-Comers meet on Jun.4 and the Jesse Bent Invitational, also a BC Canada Games trial, from June 8-10.
At the opening All-Comers meet, 2012 CIS Rookie of the Year Rachel Francois will compete in her first 800-m race of the 2013 season, alongside team mate Jenica Moore. Representing the Vikes in the 1500-m will be Maureen McCulligh, Brittany Therrien and Kendra Pomfret. Francois, Moore and Pomfret were all CIS First Team All-Canadians this year after their gold-medal performance in the 4×800-m relay.
For the men, 2011 Canada West Most Outstanding Performer Adam Gaudes (Winnipeg, Man.), third year John Pratt (Victoria, B.C.) and fourth year Karl Robertson (Leduc, A.B.) will compete in the 800-m and are striving for times under 1:50. Racing in the 1500-m are Josh Clouthier (Nanaimo, B.C.), Dylan Haight (Victoria, B.C.) and Cody Therrien (Victoria, B.C.), all looking to beat 3:50.
The All-Comers meet is part of the WestCan series hosted by the Vikes, Trinity Western and Alberta. The event is geared towards providing additional opportunities for athletes striving to reach standards for major events such as the Canada Games, national championships or simply their personal bests.
For the Vikes, these meets are also preparing the the teams for the Canadian national championships, to be hosted in Moncton, N.B. from June 20-23, as well as the 25th Victoria International Track Classic, hosted at Centennial Stadium on July 5.
