June 6, 2013, Coquitlam, BC (ISN) – Trinity Western sprinter Liza Whitehead (Surrey, B.C.) posted a season’s best time of 12.01 in the 100m to lead the Spartans at the first ever Coquitlam All-Comers Meet, featuring Canada West schools, at Percy Perry Stadium.

Whitehead, whose personal best time is 11.98, won the 100m by edging the University of Alberta’s Leah Walkeden, who finished second with a time of 12.24. The Spartans Hazel Ross (Bishopton, Scotland) finished third in 12.77.

Amongst other highlights for the Spartans Tuesday was the performance of, middle distance runner Meg Harradine (Langley), who posted a personal best time of 2:17.04 in the 800m.

The meet was part of a three-event outdoor series featuring athletes from Trinity Western, Alberta and the University of Victoria. The first meet was May 31 at Langley’s McLeod Athletic Park. The three schools will also compete Saturday and Sunday as part of the 2013 Coquitlam Cheetahs Invitational Track Meet at Percy Perry Stadium.

During the event, many of the university athletes wore red bandanas in honour of University of Calgary track athlete Danielle Kendall, who died Sunday in a climbing accident in Ecuador.
