Huskies Have Tough Start to Season

June 11, 2013, Saskatoon, SK (ISN) – Looking to continue to make strides in Canada West volleyball, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies start the season against back-to-back perennial conference favourites.

The Alberta Golden Bears/Pandas and Trinity Western Spartans travel to the PAC to open the Canada West 22-match season schedule. Both Alberta and Trinity were ranked in the CIS Top 10 throughout the 2012-13 season.

Volleyball is the second schedule released in Canada West Universities Athletic Association Schedule Week. Basketball was released Monday, hockey will be released Wednesday, soccer Thursday and wrestling, cross country and track & field wrap up the week on Friday.

Highlights of the schedule include:

– The season opens against the Alberta Golden Bears/Pandas on October 26-27.

– Pack the PAC when Trinity Western visits the PAC the following weekend, November 1-2.

– Provincial rival the Regina Cougars visit the PAC January 17-18.

– The Mount Royal Cougars will play for the first time in history at the PAC on February 7-8

– Canada West Volleyball Playoffs begin February 14

– Calgary Dinos will host the CIS Men’s Volleyball Championship February 28-March 2, while the Regina Cougars will host the CIS Women’s Volleyball Championship on the same weekend.

All Huskie volleyball games will have livestats at  A portion of the Huskies games will also be webcast. A full broadcast schedule will be released later this summer. Start times for Huskie Athletics home games will be at 6:15 p.m. (women) and 8 p.m. (men).
