June 11, 2013, Iquitos, Peru (ISN) – For the second straight night Canada went the distance at the Pan Am Cup women’s volleyball tournament but this time pulled out a victory over Peru 25-19, 22-25, 25-20, 20-25, 15-11.
On Monday, Canada lost in five sets to Cuba in its opening match.
Lisa Barclay was Canada’s top scorer with 18 points (15 kills, two blocks and an ace), Lucy Charuk added 14, Kyla Richey 12 and Jaimie Thibeault 10. Led by Britney Page with five, Canada produced 18 points on the block compared to seven for Peru.
In the Group B standings, Canada and Peru both sport 1-1 records while Cuba (1-0) and Costa Rica (0-1) played later Tuesday. The top-three advance to the playoffs. Canada concludes its round robin Wednesday against Costa Rica.
In other early matches Tuesday, Argentina swept Trinidad and Tobago 25-23, 25-18, 25-11 and Dominican Republic beat Colombia 25-19, 25-14, 25-21.
