June 13, 2013, Edmonton, AB (ISN) – The Edmonton Oil Kings organization, along with the NHL Edmonton Oilers, AHL Oklahoma City Barons and ECHL affiliate Stockton Thunder, is aware of the reports regarding Kristians Pelss going missing while visiting Riga, Latvia, this week.
There has been contradictory information reported, at times, and we are trying to confirm the facts. Once we are able to do that, we will be able to offer further comment.
At this time, our thoughts and prayers are with the Pelss family. Kristians spent two years with the Oil Kings before beginning his pro career in the Oilers system, splitting last season between the Barons and the Thunder.
Pelss was the Oil Kings first round pick (19th Overall) in the 2010 CHL Import Draft and was selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the 7th round also in 2010. During the speedy forwards two seasons with the Oil Kings, Kristians compiled 42 goals and 42 assists in 126 regular season games. During the Oil Kings 2011-12 Championship season, he contributed with 28 goals in just 63 games and added another 10 points in 17 playoff games en route to an Ed Chynoweth Cup Championship.
