June 15, 2013, CANET-EN-ROUSILLON, France (ISN) – Evan White of Oakville, Ont., won the bronze medal on Saturday in the men’s 200-metre individual medley to open the third and final stop on the Mare Nostrum swimming circuit.

White, 17, neared his personal best time of 2:02.56

“To get near my personal best time when I’m not fully prepared is very satisfying,” said White. “My dives were deeper off the start and my stroke rate higher for the backstroke and freestyle. It’s been a great experience racing at this competition.”

Canada’s national junior coach Ken McKinnon wasn’t surprised to see White on the podium.

“He’s been building towards this,” he said. “We were hoping to see another improvement today and he put himself in position to win a medal. There was a significant drop between his morning and night swim and that bodes well for tomorrow.

The Tour ends on Sunday.
