June 18, 2013, Victoira, BC (ISN) – Highlanders forward Craig Gorman has been named Bayview’s Player of the Match for the June 14th tilt against North Sound SeaWolves. The 24-year-old forward from Yellowknife Saskatchewan earned a goal and an assist in the 2-1 victory for Highlanders FC Friday night, leading the club to it’s fifth win of the season.
“I think he was good,” said Head Coach Steve Simonson. “[It was a] great goal, [and he was] finding dangerous spaces as he always does. He’s a finisher, it was a good game for him, glad to see him re-inserted into the lineup.”
Gorman, in his fourth year with the Highlanders, had failed to break out in previous matches this season, but his multi-point night saw him score a beautiful goal, going one-on-one with Kitsap goalkeeper Dylan Fabber before shifting around the left and firing it into the back of the net. His assist came on a heads-up play where he received the ball in front of the net, recognizing teammate Blair Sturrock on the far right, Gorman’s pass found Sturrock who then fired into the net, it proved to be the game-winner.
The Highlanders men’s first team heads out on the road for games against North Sound SeaWolves on Friday, June 21 at 7:30 pm. They play again on Sunday, June 23rd against the Kitsap Pumas at 4:00 pm. For news and updates, please visit www.victoriahighlandersfc.com.
