June 20, 2013, Kelowna, BC (ISN) – In one year’s time the UBC Okanagan Heat soccer teams will bid farewell to PACWEST and the CCAA to join the school’s Basketball and Volleyball programs in Canada West. First, however, they have the 2013-14 calendar to fight through and just one last shot at the Provincial Gold and CCAA playoff glory.
Heat soccer will open their season on home turf during the first week of school, hosting a pair of teams from the Island, the Vancouver Island Mariners on September 7th and the Capilano Blues on September 8th. They will then go almost a month before seeing the Nonis Field for another match, hitting the road for three straight weekends in the Lower Mainland.
Clashing in the past two provincial finals will add zeal to the annual valley rival showcase between UBC Okanagan and the Thompson Rivers WolfPack, however this will not be the last edition as the WolfPack are also moving their soccer programs to Canada West in 2014. First is a Saturday (Oct. 5) showdown at Hillside Stadium in Kamloops and then the Heat are finally back at home on the Sunday (Oct. 6) to begin a home stand that will last the remaining five games of the regular season.
The final four matches of the season will see Lower Mainland teams Kwantlen, Douglas, Langara and Quest each journey to the interior over two weekends before the PACWEST playoffs will kick off.
The top four teams in the league will advance to a final four PACWEST Provincial championship hosted by Vancouver Island in Nanaimo. The semi-final will go on Friday, October 26 with the two winners advancing to the Provincial Finals on the Saturday.
For the men, the UNB-Saint John Seawolves of Saint John, N.B. are confirmed to host the 2013 CCAA Men’s Soccer National Championship. The four-day event will take place November 6 – 9, 2013 at UNB-Saint John’s Canada Games Stadium.
The women will stay in BC for the national championships as the Kwantlen Eagles are set to host the 2013 CCAA Women’s Soccer National Championship in Surrey, B.C. The four-day national championship will be hosted November 6 – 9, 2013 at Newton Athletic Park.
The defending CCAA national champion UBC Okanagan Heat women’s golf team will have their work cut out for them in defending their title with the departure of Jen Woods, one of the most decorated athletes at the institution, and former national tournament all-star Alana Kent.
2013-14 GOLF SCHEDULES (M/W)
The four week PACWEST schedule for both the men’s and women’s teams will get underway in Nanaimo, on September 7-8. The following weekend (Sep 14-15) will be a home date for the Heat as the Okanagan Golf Club will play host to the second tournament of the season.
After a weekend off the final two tournaments will be played in Victoria at Bear Mountain on September 28-29, with the season winding up at the Chilliwack Golf and Country club in a tournament hosted by Fraser Valley.
If the Heat shoot well enough over the season they will head to the CCAA National Championship that runs October 15-18 and is hosted by the Royal Quebec Golf Club in Quebec City.
