June 19, 2013, Victoria , BC (ISN) – Highlanders FC (5-1-1) are set to face North Sound Sea Wolves (1-6-1) this Friday in their second road game of the season. This will be the third time this season that the two squads meet, with both previous matches being close.

The Sea Wolves came into Victoria on May 25th to end the Highlanders’ three-game winning streak in a 2-2 draw but Victoria answered in the next meeting at Royal Athletic Park last Friday with a 3-1 victory.

The Highlanders were able to control much of the pace last week with the exception of the opening minutes when North Sound rattled shots off the post twice. Victoria answered the early surge with a 10′ minute highlight reel goal by Craig Gorman, his first of the season. Gorman had his second assist of the season fourteen minutes later when he found Blair Sturrock who put it home to get on the score sheet for the first time this season, too. Bradley Jacobson was the biggest offensive threat for North Sound, getting five shots off in the first half.

The lead looked threatened when, in the 83′ minute, North Sound’s David Durrant met a volley and lobbed it over keeper Elliot Mitrou. Victoria managed to hold on and Jordie Hughes sealed the victory in extra minutes when he netted a sharp-angle shot for his eighth on the season.

North Sound is in better position to challenge the Highlanders this weekend. They play at their home stadium and are coming off their only victory of the season over Washington Crossfire in a 1-0 affair on Monday. Brady Ballew scored in the 12′ minute off a pass from Daniel Gavin and they continued to dominate in the first half. The second half was scoreless with the action going against the Sea Wolves forcing keeper Ryan Herman to make five saves in his shut-out bid.

This is the Highlanders’ first multi-game road trip of the season. They play Kitsap Pumas on Sunday. All of their games will be away until the season finale July 13th against current division leader Portland Timbers.
