June 21, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – The Highlanders (5-1-1) head off to the United States on their first multi-game road trip of the season. They face North Sound Sea Wolves (1-6-1) tonight and then travel to Kitsap to square off against the Pumas (1-2-5) on Sunday, 4pm at Gordon Park Field.
This is the second match against Kitsap, who sit fifth in the division with eight points, and Victoria hopes to repeat their performance and leave the pitch with a victory. The home opener resulted in a 3-0 shut-out by keeper Joel Wilson. Fan favorite Tommy Mallette opened the scoring for Victoria’s season in the 17′ minute off an assist by new signing Brett Levis. Levis proved himself to be a very successful signing by adding a goal and another assist. Jordie Hughes scored the third and Craig Gorman added an assist. Wilson made a big save on a penalty kick to preserve the shut-out.
The most dangerous Pumas were Will Daniels and Alex Chavez, who each challenged Wilson forcing him to make a save but the entire match seemed uphill for the Pumas who were outshot 17-6.
While the Highlanders are facing the Sea Wolves tonight, the Pumas will travel to Portland. Last week’s meeting between these teams resulted in a draw. The Timbers stand one point ahead of the Highlanders, who can take the top spot in the division with a successful six-point road trip.
Join us for the Highlanders’ final game of the season on July 13th when they host Portland Timbers U-23’s. Kick-off is 7pm at Royal Athletic Park.
