June 25, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – The Peninsula Co-op women look to continue their current winning streak when they host the Vancouver Whitecaps at Tyndall Park, Saturday at 2:00pm.
After getting off to a slow start to begin their season, the women’s first team have gone on a recent tear, winning five straight games while outscoring their opponents by a 23-2 margin.
The Highlanders women will have their hands full with the Whitecaps, who sit at first in the Pacific Coast Soccer League (PCSL) standings with 11 wins and one loss. Their success can be largely attributed to standout forward Summer Clarke, who sits comfortably atop the PCSL scoring leaders with 17 goals. The Whitecaps have 37 goals in total during their 2013 PCSL campaign.
The Highlanders recent play in their winning streak has vaulted three of their own into the top-ten in scoring as well. Liz Hansen and Abbi Raymer sit at sixth and seventh in scoring with six goals apiece, while Jackie Harrison rounds out the top-ten with five goals.
The Highlanders now sit second place in the PCSL, posting a record of six wins, one loss and two draws through nine games, scoring a total of 32 goals while allowing nine against.
The Peninsula Co-op women kick-off against Whitecaps FC, Saturday at 2:00pm at Tyndall Park. The game is free of charge. The next men’s home match takes place Wednesday, July 3rd against Victoria United, 7:00 pm at Royal Athletic Park.
