Emma Friesen fifth at diving Grand Prix

June 30, 2013, BOLZANO, Italy (ISN) – Emma Friesen of North Vancouver fell out of medal contention when she missed her second dive in the final and took fifth spot on women’s three-metre springboard on Sunday to conclude the sixth and final stop on the diving Grand Prix circuit.

Tania Cagnotto of Italy won the gold earning 339.50 points to edge Xu Zhihuan of China in second at 338.20. Francesca Dallape of Italy was third at 296.10

After scoring the fifth best five in the first round, Friesen completely missed her forward dive and was never able to climb back higher in the standings scoring 218.95. It’s Friesen’s third Grand Prix final this season. She was also second in Puerto Rico last month and sixth in Spain.

Canada earned two fourth place finishes at the competition. Friesen and Aimee Harrison of Winnipeg were fourth on three-metre synchro on Friday and Celina Toth of Victoria was fourth on women’s 10-metre tower on Saturday. Both were just a point short of the podiuim.
