July 4, 2013, (ISN) – The Alberta Soccer Association’s (ASA) Youth Rural Provincial Championships are set to take place this weekend (July 5-7) in five locations across the province including Edson, Lacombe, Ponoka, Stettler and Three Hills.

For youth amateur soccer players and clubs, the Provincial Championships represent the pinnacle of success for their outdoor soccer season.

The Youth Rural Provincial Championships have been taking place under the Alberta Soccer umbrella since 2005 and this year’s competition will see 71 teams and approximately 1,300 players. Male and female teams qualify from rural areas across the province in four different age categories including U-12, U-14, U-16, and U-18 at a Tier IV level.

Alberta is the only Province to offer Provincial Championships specific to rural areas and teams. Alberta soccer recognizes the importance of offering high level competition along with a level playing field for teams and players from rural locations in order to encourage player development in these areas. This year’s Youth Provincial Championships will be presented by Booster Juice and each player participant will receive a 2 for 1 Smoothie Coupon. Booster Juice has also sponsored the Fair Play Awards that are given to the team in each competition who best demonstrates the spirit of sportsmanship through their attitudes towards each other, their opponents and the officials.

Please find attached the list of locations and the corresponding competition that will be taking place at each location. Media interested in the Championships are invited to all hosting soccer centres across the Province to cover the competition. When entering the fields, please ask for an ASA representative. All schedules, results and standings can be found on our website at Results will also be updated in real time via the Alberta Soccer Twitter Feed @AlbertaSoccer.
