July 5, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – The Peninsula Co-op Highlanders look to continue their streak and gain ground on first-place Vancouver Whitecaps FC when they host Coquitlam Metro-Ford SC at Tyndall Park, Saturday at 2:00pm.
The Co-op Highlanders have gone on a tear of late, winning seven straight matches while outscoring their opponents by a 32-6 margin. The Highlanders trail Vancouver for first in the Pacific Coast Soccer League (PCSL) standings by ten points, a differential that would seem insurmountable if the Highlanders did not have three games in hand.
The Highlanders have been led by two-time Bayview Player-of-the-Match Liz Hansen, who netted three goals in the Highlanders last match at Vancouver, a team that until last weekend’s tilt against Victoria, had only allowed 10 goals through the first 13 games of their season. Hansen has moved up to second in league scoring behind Vancouver’s Summer Clarke. Other key contributors on offense have been Abbi Raymer, Katie Kraeutner and Jackie Harrison.
The Highlanders defense and goalkeepers have also stepped up to have a major impact on the seven-game win-streak, allowing only six goals against during the streak, and shutting out their opponents in three of the seven matches.
The Highlanders will look to continue their ways against Coquitlam Metro-Ford SC, who currently sit at last in the PCSL scoring 12 goals and allowing 38 against.
The next women’s home match takes place at 5:30pm on Saturday, July 13th against Okanagan FC. The women’s match will be followed by the men’s season finale against Portland Timbers U-23 at 7:30pm. For more information and to get your tickets, please visit www.victoriahighlandersfc.com
