Canada can advance to World League final with victory over Japan

July 6, 2013, OSAKA, Japan, (ISN) – Canada defeated Japan 3-1 (25-11, 25-21, 23-25, 25-20) for their fifth straight victory in men’s volleyball World League play on Saturday.

Canada can advance to the FIVB World League men’s volleyball finals on Sunday with a another win over the Japanese in its final preliminary round match.

The Netherlands had an opportunity to clinch Group C and a berth to the finals on Saturday in its last match but was upset by Finland 25-19, 26-24, 20-25, 25-20. Heading into Sunday, the Dutch (7-3) are first in the group with 22 points and Canada (7-2) follow at 21. Only the first place team advances.

Sunday’s Canada-Japan match goes at 1 a.m. (EDT) in Osaka. It wll be carried tape delayed on Sportsnet East, Ontario, West and Pacific (National) @ 9:30 a.m. and tape delayed on Sportsnet One @ 9:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Canada rode their power game to victory, with their attackers pounding spikes relentlessly and their blockers playing strongly at the net.
