July 7, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – Desperately in need of a win amidst a rough slump, Victoria got a solid overall effort, as they took down Kelowna 11-3 on Saturday night.

After struggling with the high number of 1st inning runs allowed to their opponents recently, Victoria jumped on Kelowna early this time, putting up 2 early runs in the first to help starter Robby Nesovic.

While Nesovic continued to dominate on the mound, the offense picked up where they left off on Friday night in terms of stringing base runners together. Victoria was patient at the plate, taking 12 walks and also picking up 11 hits on the night.

After 6 innings, the HarbourCats led 5-0. Kelowna, however, wouldn’t go down without a fight. The Falcons put up 2 in the 7th and 1 in the 8th to make it a 6-3 game entering the bottom of the 8th.

That’s when Kelowna got wild. The Falcons let 5 runs come across in the bottom of the 8th on just 1 hit and 6 walks. That 1 hit was the first grand slam in HarbourCats history, a liner off the bat of John Schuknecht to fully break the game open.

Although Victoria committed 2 defensive errors, Saturday’s performance was one of their most solid games in a few weeks. It should give the squad a lot of momentum heading into tomorrow’s series finale with Kelowna at 1:05. Tickets are still available here
