MONTREAL – Luce Bourbeau, a McGill University student from Havre-aux-Maisons, Que., located in the Madeleine Islands, has been named by Rowing Canada to represent the country at the under-23 world rowing championships in Linz, Austria, July 24-28.

“We’re quite proud of Luce’s development and success,” said Dr. Philip Hedrei, head coach of the McGill club. “This is a very significant achievement for Luce and caps a great year for her.”

Bourbeau, who stands 5-foot-11, is a 22-year-old political science junior. She rose to prominence with the McGill crew last fall after winning gold in women’s pairs at the Canadian University Rowing Association championships in Burnaby, B.C. She was also part of a foursome that finished fourth of 46 entries in the club fours category at the prestigious Head of the Charles River regatta in Boston. When not competing for McGill, she trains with the Club d’aviron de Boucherville.

“The under-23 program is one of our most important development components leading to our senior team,” said Peter Cookson, high performance director at Rowing Canada. “The coaches have put a lot of effort into assessing and selecting a strong team to represent Canada at this year’s U-23world championships.”

The selection process took place in London, Ont., and Victoria, B.C., under the direction of the organization’s development director Peter Shakespear, and the development coaches, Terry Paul and Michelle Darvill.  Additional coaches are listed below.
