July 8, 2013 Victoria, BC (ISN) – After 2 solid offensive games that seemed to indicate a changing of the guard, Victoria fell back to their struggling ways in a 6-1 loss Monday to the Walla Walla Sweets.

After struggling with early runs, the HarbourCats and Sweets went scoreless through 3 innings, but the Sweets broke it open in the 4th. A leadoff homer off the bat of John Skrbec gave Walla Walla a 1-0 lead and Kramer Lindell’s 2-run shot 1 inning later would make it 3-0.

The HarbourCats got 1 in the 6th to try to support starter Ty Provencher, but Jordan Ellis’ RBI single in the 6th was all the support they could muster.

Just for good measure, Walla Walla would double their run total with 3 runs in the 9th along with 3 errors.

With the loss, Victoria fell to 2-7 in series openers and has lost 6 straight to start a series. It’s a trend that Head Coach Dennis Rogers is calling more of a coincidence than anything, “I don’t think it has anything to do with game 1, 2, or 3,” said Rogers. “It doesn’t matter what game it is, we just don’t have the consistency.”

The HarbourCats, however, have bounced back well in the final 2 games of series this season, and will be looking to continue the trend tomorrow night at 7:05 on Fairway Markets Night at Royal Athletic Park.
