GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon Early Bird Registration Deadline – July 15

July 9, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – The early bird registration deadline for the GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon is just days away – on July 15. To date over 4,000 registrations have been received for all four events – the Marathon, Half Marathon, 8K Road Race and the Thrifty Foods Kids Run.

It is expected that there will be an increase in registrations over the next week before the regular registration fees apply.

All four races are capped – the Marathon at 3,000; Half Marathon at 6,000; 8K Road Race at 3,500 and the Thrifty Foods Kids Run at 1,300.

The event has four official charities: KidSport Greater Victoria, Raise a Reader, GoodLife Kids Foundation and the Kilee Patchell-Evans Autism Research Group. In addition there are 19 charities participating in the 2013 Times Colonist Charity Pledge Program.

“If you haven’t already signed up for one of the four races, sign up now and save some money prior to this next deadline,” says Cathy Noel, General Manager of the GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon. “With three months to race day you have time to train for all of the distances. Whether you are completing your first event or if you are a veteran you won’t regret making the commitment to your health, your family and hopefully one of the Charity Pledge Program charities.”

The Marathon early bird entry fee is $100. The deadline also applies to the Half Marathon and the 8K Road Race where the fees are $75 and $35. After July 15 regular registration fees will apply – $110 for the Marathon, $85 for the Half Marathon and $40 for the 8K Road Race. The entry fee for the Thrifty Foods Kids Run remains at $15 until October 12.

For the fifth year in a row the GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon will host the BC Marathon Championships. There is $37,300 available in prize money with $3,000 each going to the top male and female and a $5,000 bonus for a new men’s or women’s course record. The Men’s and Women’s Marathon course record was set in 2011 by Thomas Omwenga (2:14:31) and Lucy Njeri (2:37:56). Natasha Fraser set a new Women’s Half Marathon record in 2012 (1:14:06). The Men’s Half Marathon record is held by Jon Brown (2002 – 1:02:32). Gary Barber holds the Men’s 8K course record (1989 – 23:23) and Ulla Marquette holds the Women’s record (1991 – 26:24).
