Saanich Junior B Braves Commit to Four Top Prospects

July 11, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – Following a competitive Prospects Camp held at Pearkes Arena last weekend, the Saanich Junior B Braves have committed to four top players for the 2013/14 season.

Forwards Jack Rachwalski (1995) who played last season with the South Island Royals Major Midget team and served as an AP with the Braves, Hunter Atchison (1996) from the Victoria Icehawks Midget team and Evan Horvath (1997) from the Juan de Fuca Grizzlies Midget program will be joined by defenseman Mackenzie Valentine (1997) from the Victoria Racquet Club Midget program.

“These four players have worked hard to earn a spot on the Braves roster,” said Braves Head Coach Brad Cook. “I’m looking forward to working with them and watching them develop their skills as part of the Braves team this season.”

Several Braves players are moving on for the 2013/14 season as they advance their hockey careers.

Forward Shawn McBride and Assistant Coach Scott Hawthorne are both joining the Victoria Grizzlies (BCHL) organization.

Four Braves have committed to hockey programs at universities in the US, all in the ACHA –Division 1. Braves Captain, Ty Jones to the University of Oklahoma, Chad Roorda, to the University of Central Oklahoma and Justin Polischuk and Sam Johnston to Adrian College in Michigan.

“It is our job to develop players so that they can successfully move on to the next level in their hockey careers and in their education,” said Norm Kelly, GM/Owner Saanich Braves. “We wish Shawn, Scott, Ty, Chad, Justin and Sam all the best with their new teams in the upcoming season.”
