Canada blaked by Ukraine, to play for 7th

July 14, 2013, KAZAN, Russia (Team Canada) (ISN) – The Canadian men’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 consolation semifinal decision to Ukraine at the 27th Summer Universiade, Sunday night.

With the loss, Canada (1-2-2) will now face Malaysia (1-3-1) for seventh place Monday at 11 a.m. local time (3 a.m. ET).

Sergii Kravchenko tallied the winning goal in the 65th minute.

Despite allowing the lone goal in the match, Canadian keeper Jonathan Viscosi of Ottawa made 11 saves. Oleksii Shevchenko stopped four balls for the winners.

Regardless of tomorrow’s result, the showing at the 2013 FISU Games will be the second best in history for Canada, trailing only a fourth-place finish in 2007 in Bangkok, Thailand. The Canucks were ninth two years ago in Shenzhen, China.
