Canada edges South Korea, will play for 5th

July 14, 2013, KAZAN, Russia (Team Canada) (ISN) – The Canadian men’s volleyball team downed South Korea 3-2 (21-25, 25-15, 25-19, 16-25, 15-8) on Sunday afternoon to advance to the consolation final for fifth place at the 27th Summer Universiade.

Canada (4-2) wraps up the tournament against Czech Republic (4-2) Monday at 3 p.m. local time (7 a.m. ET). It will make the fourth straight FISU Games that the Canadian men will complete the tournament among the top six.

Canada claimed a silver medal in 2007 in Bangkok, Thailand, finished sixth in 2009 in Belgrade, Serbia, and barely missed the podium in 2011 in China, taking fourth place.

Steven Marshall, of Abbotsford, B.C., led the way on offence with 17 kills. The Trinity Western University Spartan also added eight digs and four blocks. Chris Hoag of Sherbrooke, Que., added another 11 kills, while younger brother Nicholas tallied 10.
