July 16, 2013, Burnaby, BC (ISN) – The Simon Fraser University Men’s Ice Hockey team is pleased to announce that Abbotsford native and former Prince George Spruce King Trevor Esau has committed to join the team for the 2013/14 season.
The 6’4″ defenseman played three seasons in the BCHL with Prince George, racking up 42 points and 290 penalty minutes in 159 games. He also served as team captain in his final season.
“Any time you can add a big defenseman and former captain to the lineup, you’re in good shape,” says SFU Head Coach Mark Coletta. “Trevor will be looked upon to step in and bring a physical presence that we have lacked in the last couple seasons.”
“I’m excited to be coming to SFU because it’s a chance to get an education at one of the top schools in Canada,” says Esau, who emphasizes the importance of learning how to balance school and hockey in his first year. “I am excited to join the hockey program as I see an opportunity to be a part of a team with a tradition of winning and an organization that prides itself in being the best athletes on the ice, and best students in the classroom.
Esau describes his game as “tough, hard nose, and in your face,” and he takes “pride in blocking shots, making big hits, and playing solid defense.”
Trevor is the eighth player to commit to SFU for the 2013/14 season. Further announcements will be made in the coming weeks. For more information or to stay up to date on the latest recruits, please visit
