July 17, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – Victoria Royals’ mascot Marty the Marmot has been recognized by MascotInsider.com in the website’s second annual Favourite Mascot of the Year poll.
Marty, who is nominated in the “Favourite Not Listed” category, is going head-to-head with the likes of Kellogg’s Tony the Tiger and Disney’s Mickey Mouse. Marty is currently leading the category with 38% of the vote while the first round closes on Friday, July 19th. The winners of each category when voting closes on Friday will then go head-to-head in order to be crowned Favourite Mascot of the Year.
This is the second year the Favorite Mascot of the Year poll has run. Categories include the National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), National Football League (NFL), National Hockey League (NHL), Minor League, College and Favourite Not Listed mascots. MascotInsider.com is a website dedicated to uniting mascots with their fans.
Marty spends countless hours in the Greater Victoria community raising money for a variety of charitable causes and organizations. During the 2012-13 Western Hockey League (WHL) season, Marty the Marmot raised over $17,000. The Royals’ mascot has also been a strong advocate for organizations such as the BC Cancer Foundation and the BC Lions Easter Seals.
